about the book

Theo Reyes opens the Maple Hollow Café at 6am, six days a week, and has done it the same way for nine years. He knows the regulars by their orders and most of them by the year their kids graduated. He also knows, the moment the bell rings on a Tuesday in October, that June Calloway has come home.

June was supposed to leave Maple Hollow and never look back. She did the first part. The second part is harder than it sounds — and the kitchen Theo keeps at the back of his café is somehow the only quiet place in the country.

“Some people come home. The good ones stay long enough to put the kettle on.”
